Stealing Content

January 11, 2007 - Posted in the General category -

Usually I am all for people taking my RSS and republishing it on their site, as long as they give credit where credit is due. However, in this case, I can’t stand it. The following site, http://wow.consolenewsblog.com/ is taking my content, and republishing it without a mention of my name anywhere. It looks like they are taking WoWInsider.com’s content and doing the same thing…

Now, I wouldn’t normally make this kind of information public as I don’t feel humiliation is the right way to go about it. But there isn’t contact information anywhere on this site.

If you are reading this, take my feed off of your system immediately.

Hahaha… man, the top post on the site now is your post, word for word, asking them to take your posts off their site.

Content stealers are jagoffs - I remember a couple sports blogs I read had a similar problem, if I can find out how they fixed it I’ll let you know.

I dig your site - wish you’d post more often.

Aeigelus,

You should report them to Google. Because duplicate content can affect your pagerank, Google has the provision to report sites that have stolen content. Getting reported can result in the thief site being removed from Google search results. If they are trying to earn revenue through adsense, this can hurt them big time since people can no longer find their site in search results, and may even result in their adsense account being banned.

But I have to admit, I kinda like their website since it is one of the very few WoW related websites that my job doesn’t block out. There is no way I would be able to check out wowinsider or anything like that haha.

Yup, I have already reported them to Google, taken all the necessary steps, etc… Hopefully it gets their AdSense banned across their entire network of copied content sites…
